Where are you located?
We are located on the docks of Rock Harbor Marina at 525 Basswood Ave, Nashville, TN 37209, with direct access to the Cumberland River. We're a 15-minute drive from downtown Nashville or just minutes from the Nations. If you're familiar with Blue Moon Waterfront Grille, our Pro Shop is located right next to it. If for any reason you can't find us, give us a call at (615) 571-0708.
Do I need paddle boarding experience to rent a paddle board?
Absolutely not! We cater to first-timers all the way to seasoned paddle boarders. The only requirement is that you must know how to swim if you rent a paddle board, kayak or take a stand-up paddle board (SUP) class or lesson from us.
What equipment does my rental include?
The rental rate is inclusive of all equipment necessary to get you on the water. You will be provided with a board or kayak, paddle, leash and personal floatation device that is appropriately sized for you. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your reservation to allow enough time for proper outfitting. We do have upgraded equipment available for an additional cost (see Rates page).
Is a reservation required?
Reservations are not required, but they are recommended to guarantee we have a board or kayak for you at a preferred date and time. We accept walk-ins daily until 6:30pm as long as we have enough boards to accommodate you and/or your group.
Do I need to sign anything before hand?
Yes. All participants must sign a waiver in order to rent a paddle board, kayak or to take a class or lesson. You can sign the waiver online beforehand (we'd prefer this) or you can complete it on-site at our Pro Shop. Minors, or anyone under the age of 18, must have a parental or guardian's signature to participate. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your reservation so you have enough time to sign the waiver, as well as get a board or kayak, paddle, and personal flotation device.
What should I bring?
*Sorry, no alcohol is allowed on the paddle board / kayaks*. You should bring a towel, sunscreen, sunglasses (secured to you in someway), a hat, a change of clothes (if desired) and your favorite outdoor snack for when hunger hits post-paddle. If you forget something or are looking for an upgrade, our Pro Shop offers paddling equipment, basic water sport accessories and apparel for purchase. Restrooms and showers are available for your convenience at Rock Harbor Marina.
What should I wear?
You can wear whatever you want as long as you don’t mind getting it wet! Most participants wear a swimsuit, board shorts, athletic or performance attire, etc. UV protective clothing is recommended, but not required. You must wear some type of footwear to get from our shop to the dock.
Is there a place to store my stuff?
Yes, we have small cubbies (not locked) in the Pro Shop that you can use to store a few things while you paddle. If you don't feel comfortable leaving your personal items in our shop, you can store them in your car.
**In compliance with Covid-19 safety measures, we ask that you please leave larger items in your vehicle. We will be glad to store smaller items like phones, keys, wallets, etc. in trays behind our desk**
Do you offer a discounted rate for large groups?
Yes! For groups of 20 people or more, the hourly rate is $18 per person. Advanced reservations are required, so please contact us at (615) 571-0708 or email email@example.com to discuss your needs and our availability.
Full payment is required at the time of booking to reserve paddle boards and/or kayaks at the group rate. Please have your payment information ready as well as the following details: number of people in the group, number of boards and/or kayaks needed, preferred date, time, length of paddle (1 to 4+ hours), plus your name and contact information.
What is your cancellation policy?
There are no refunds at Paddle Up Nashville. All purchases are final.
What if there are storms in the area during the time of my reservation?
Your safety is our top priority. We monitor the weather closely so when thunder and lightning are present, we will contact you to reschedule your reservation.
Do you have a customer loyalty program?
Yes, we offer Paddle Up Nashville punch cards in the Pro Shop. Paddle with us five times and the sixth visit is on us!
What are Jack Bucks?
Named after our beloved Scottish Terrier, Jack Bucks are vouchers we use as "rain checks" when the weather results in a rescheduled paddle, or when we want to show customers our appreciation. Regardless of why or if you receive them, the redeemable amount or activity will be written on them.
Can I bring my own paddle board ?
Rock Harbor Marina is a private establishment and only allows Paddle Up Nashville customers to launch from the marina. Personal stand-up paddle boards are permitted to launch from our dock for $10 per day. Please note that personal stand-up paddle boards are not permitted for special events, such as Full Moon Paddles.
Are there any age or weight restrictions?
Paddle boarding is a great exercise for all ages, though participants under the age of 18 must have an adult present ON THE WATER when participating. We are happy to provide a chaperone if needed, but an additional rental fee will be charged. Contact us in advance at (615) 571-0708 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org if a chaperone is needed.
Also, please let us know if children under the age of 13 will be participating or if someone weighs more than 250 lbs. This will help us ensure that proper equipment is available during your rental. Unfortunately, we do not provide personal floatation devices for children under the age of 3. Please bring your own.
Can I swim in the water?
Yes, there are designated swimming areas inside the harbor where you can splash around, sunbathe or just relax on your board. You are also allowed to swim on the river, but you cannot block the entrance of the harbor or obstruct incoming or outgoing boats. Ask a Paddle Up staff member for information about designated swimming areas.
Do I have to wear a life jacket / personal floatation device?
State law requires that a life jacket (also known as a personal floatation device) must be present on the board or kayak. Children under the age of 13 must wear a life jacket at all times while on the water.
Can I share a board with my friend?
Our paddle boards can only hold a certain amount of weight. If a small child wishes to be on a board with an adult, it is typically okay. Contact us in advance at (615) 571-0708 or by email at email@example.com if this is your case. On the other hand, two adults are not able to share a board. Each participant must rent their own board.
Can I bring my dog with me?
Yes, dogs are permitted on stand-up paddle boards. We call them “woof boards” and they are specifically designated for our furry friends. Supplies are limited, so contact us at (615) 571-0708 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to request one. Dog size is helpful to know as well.
Is there a place to store a water bottle on a SUP board?
Yes, you can place your water bottle on your board or use straps to secure it. Staying hydrated is very important while being active on the water, so free drinking water is provided in the Pro Shop. Please bring a reusable water bottle to reduce the impact of single-use plastics and receive a double punch on your loyalty card (excluding other promotional offers). If you don't have one, we have them for purchase in the Pro Shop. Thank you for helping us foster a more eco-friendly Nashville!
Can I dock my paddle board on the shore?
Paddle boards are very fragile and prefer only water. Rocks, floating debris and reckless maneuvers (e.g. running into other boards) can cause serious damage and crack the board. Boards that are damaged through the exterior finish will take on water. Any damages to the paddle board or equipment is the responsibility of the participant, including repair cost and replacement.
What kind of wildlife will I see?
You are likely to see Blue Heron, Snowy Egrets, Bald Eagles, Mallards, Wood Ducks, Beavers, Ground Hogs, Woodpeckers, Canadian Geese, sunbathing turtles and an assortment of fish jumping out of the water.
